Grajaù: vocational month

The Church in Brazil dedicates the month of August to vocations. The first Sunday is dedicated to the vocation of ordained ministers; the second to the family’s vocation (Father’s Day is celebrated); the third to consecrated religious life and the fourth to the vocation of the laity, men and women engaged in different pastoral activities and ministries.

We, sisters of Maria Bambina, celebrated our day with the inter-congregational vocational mission. It was a rich moment of proclaiming the Gospel, together with the religious communities of St John the Baptist parish in the city of Formosa da Serra Negra-Maranhão. We visited the families, the sick in their homes and hospitals, people who do not attend Church, young people in the coffee shops, places where the «need is great and extreme» and where, at the same time, we encountered witness of generosity, faith and sharing. We presented our charisms and invited young
people to be courageous to follow Jesus, who keeps calling. We also shared the joy of our religious life on the 22th with some entertainments, which promoted greater communion among us religious in the diversity of charisms. We were able to sing like Mary, «the Lord has done wonders in us» since his Kingdom is already taking place in this small portion of the Church. May Our Lady of the Assumption, Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church, help us in our pilgrimage and especially in the experience of prophetic courage.
