About her admittance into the Pious Union - True happiness lies in self-
denial for Jesus’ sake.

HAIL TO JESUS AND HIS MOST HOLY CROSS

Dearly beloved Sister,
20 February 1831.

Here you are: I am passing on to you the Novena we are

starting on Friday, that is, on 25 instant. I spoke to Mother
Parpani about your admittance into the Pious Union and she
was extremely happy about it. She added that had I not made
it a point to recommend you, she herself intended to do her
best to have you admitted. Thank the Lord with all your heart
for it. I am not going to speak about the Union because I don’t
have time, nor do I want to write down on paper things I want
to remain secret. First time we meet I will tell you everything.
Dearest, take courage, be steadfast. True happiness
and gladness is found only in denying ourselves constantly for
the sake of Jesus Christ. However heavy the cross may be,
Jesus helps us, and he bears most of it himself.
Let us love our beloved Jesus and be always faithful to
