TO MARIANNA VERTOVA
She faces opposition to the founding of her Institute - Her firm
determination.

My dearest Sister,

I have come to know what you think, from your precious
letter, and that is enough for me. I cannot tell you anything yet,
but soon you will come to know everything. For the time being
commend the affair earnestly to the Lord, because as it is
something that concerns the highest glory of God (as I do
hope), it entails great difficulties. However, these do not frighten

me at all: on the contrary, I get more courage because this
very fact shows me that it is something pleasing to God.
Giovanna Bosio, who is one of my companions in this thing,
feels like me; she was very glad to hear what you wrote in your
letter, because she desires and hopes that you too will join us.
Last Friday I was present at the function of admittance into the
Convent of Elena Bonardi. To be frank with you, it was very
painful for me to be there. I could hardly hold back my tears.
To make it worse, when after the function I went to the parlour,
