Letter 2
TO LUCIA ROMELLI
She apologizes - Love for the Cross - Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel.
Dearest Sister in the Lord,
Forgive me, I beg you, for being too thoughtless and
lazy to write to you sooner. My heart kept chiding me for being
so ungrateful and unmindful of a friend who has always been
so loyal and loving. But the thought that in your goodness of
heart you would forgive my fault made me negligent. Once
more I beg you to forgive me for it. I promise I will be more
faithful to you in future.
I should like to know if what I wished for you has come
true. Oh! How I wish the blessed Cross, the value and worth of
which is infinite, to be your inseparable companion! With what
confidence could we approach our most gentle Spouse, when
we see ourselves laden with the same cross that he himself,
for our sake, embraced and bore with heroic patience to the
extent of leaving on it, as a victim, his most sacred Body?
